A huge new version of “The Origin of Painting” features in “The Party Project” fiesta (organised by J&B, Diageo and Advanced Music / Sonar Festival) – a major exhibition of urban street art and graffiti culture that tours Seville, Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, La Coruña, Malaga in July and August 2008. “The Origin of Painting” has also been exhibited at NIMK / Nederlands Instituut voor Mediakunst / Montevideo (Amsterdam), the Sonar festival at CCCB (Barcelona), The Hayward Gallery (London), The Huddersfield Art Gallery, Wrexham Arts Centre, The Mac (Birmingham), South Hill Park (Bracknell), Q Gallery (Derby), Saltburn Artists Projects (Teeside), Quay Arts (Isle of Wight), Fabrica (Brighton), The Ashcroft Arts Centre (Fareham), in a Festival of Light organised by Home Live Arts and Moti Roti (London), on The Brunswick Centre housing estate in Kings Cross (London), for The Wembley Public Art Programme (London), for “The Art of Permanence and Change” (in a disused railway tunnel under Sydenham Hill Woods, London), at Study Gallery of Modern Art (Poole), and in a “Major” Music TV Awards event at Palau Sant Jordi – the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. As a young child, San Pedro immersed himself in art, spending most of his time drawing. People quickly grew fond of the young artist’s creations. San Pedro was surrounded by all types of music and live stage shows, being raised in Las Vegas. The artist’s father was friends with Siegfried and Roy, which led to Nick having many opportunities to share his works with them throughout his adolescence. Roy was especially encouraging, and his acknowledgment of San Pedro’s talent was all the artist needed to believe that his artwork was truly magical. San Pedro’s love for music and performance led to the creation of many works of art that would eventually gain attention from musicians coming to perform in the entertainment capitol of the world. In 2002, while attending college, San Pedro was commissioned to produce artwork for ‘NBC’s Last Call with Carson Daly’. The following year, The artist was hired to paint eight musicians, including Madonna, for the 45th Annual Grammy Awards Pre-Party. Painting Outside the Box Ilan Wizgan The painting of Mirit Ben Nun avoids accepted definitions. On the one hand, an objective examination would classify it as Contemporary art since indeed it is created in the present by a young sizzling artist. On the other hand, it lacks “Contemporary” features such as those that reflect the spirit of time and place. This is painting that speaks in an alien tongue that apparently belongs to another time and place; however, when we try to come close and point to them, we find ourselves wandering in time and space without finding a foothold. Ben Nun’s work is graced with powerful sensuousness and color. It has naïve characteristics and archetypes that refer to folk art relationships among various images in the same work that are not true to reality; and “erroneous,” in proportions – similar to those found in native tribal art in Africa, Oceania, and Australia. The surface is laboriously worked and the motifs are replicated as in the techniques of carpet weaving. This said, it is also possible to find in many paintings Western Pop Art. This combination of primeval motifs and Western Modernism charges Ben Nun’s painting with historical and cultural tension, between the then and now and the there and here. From the standpoint of form, the painting is generally divided in a schematic way, according to areas of color without intermediary transitions. Contemporary Art programme broadcasted by GBC Television featuring Gibraltarian artist Paul Cosquieri (COSQUI). The programme covers many of the different branches of Modern and Contemporary Art such as Cubism, Abstract Expressionism, Neo Expressionism, Conceptual Art, Surrealism, Grafitti Art, Mixed Media etcetera, etcetera. ABRACTUS consists of 12, half hour programmes in which Paul will tackle various techniques he normally employs in his art and also explain a few commonly known, yet frequently misunderstood contemporary art definitions. Every programme will see Paul attempting to complete an entire painting in the technique and or styled chosen for the day. The twelve programmes have been filmed in Pauls studio and are entirely the efforts of a two man team comprising of GBCs Andrew Agius, whose role has been that of filming, producing and composing the music score, whilst Paul has taken care of researching, painting and presenting the series. The idea to do an art programme has been an ambition of both Paul and Andrew for a long time but had had to be postponed on various occasions due to work or personal commitments. Eventually, both Paul and Andrew managed to get their heads together around a style and format which is both new and refreshing and as Paul mentioned, the series is very much in line with modern TV Food shows such as those by the likes of Jamie Oliver, Rick Stein, Gary Rhodes etc but where the food been cooked has been replaced by painting material and …
